Old-fashioned Macaroni and Cheese

Ingredients

  • 1 lbs Elbow Macaroni Noodles
  • 1 lbs Colby Slices
  • 1/2 cup Butter
  • 1 cup Milk Whole milk or Half and Half
  • Salt and pepper

Instructions

  1. Pre-heat oven to 350F
  2. Cook noodles per package instructions
  3. Grab your favorite deep casserole dish; mine is roughly 8“ x 10“ x 3“ deep, roughly 3-4 quart size
  4. Layer the following in order (try to make 3 layers total, using a third of your ingredients in each layer):
  5. * Butter, cut into tabs
  6. * Cooked noodles, smoothed into a roughly even layer
  7. * Salt and pepper, add a few dashes across the top of the noodles
  8. * Colby, completely covering the top of the noodles with the edges of the slices tucked down the side between the noodles and the edge of the dish
  9. Layer three times, or until any ingredients are used up
  10. On the last layer, remove a slice of cheese near the middle, and pour in the milk or cream slowly
  11. Replace the removed slice of cheese. Make sure no noodles peak through the top-most layer of cheese.
  12. Bake for ~45 minutes, or until the milk is evaporated. Shallower, clear dishes may cook closer to 30 minutes
  13. Remove from oven and let rest for 5-10 minutes. Cover with foil if letting rest longer
