Old-fashioned Macaroni and Cheese
Ingredients
- 1 lbs Elbow Macaroni Noodles
- 1 lbs Colby Slices
- 1/2 cup Butter
- 1 cup Milk Whole milk or Half and Half
- Salt and pepper
Instructions
- Pre-heat oven to 350F
- Cook noodles per package instructions
- Grab your favorite deep casserole dish; mine is roughly 8“ x 10“ x 3“ deep, roughly 3-4 quart size
- Layer the following in order (try to make 3 layers total, using a third of your ingredients in each layer):
- * Butter, cut into tabs
- * Cooked noodles, smoothed into a roughly even layer
- * Salt and pepper, add a few dashes across the top of the noodles
- * Colby, completely covering the top of the noodles with the edges of the slices tucked down the side between the noodles and the edge of the dish
- Layer three times, or until any ingredients are used up
- On the last layer, remove a slice of cheese near the middle, and pour in the milk or cream slowly
- Replace the removed slice of cheese. Make sure no noodles peak through the top-most layer of cheese.
- Bake for ~45 minutes, or until the milk is evaporated. Shallower, clear dishes may cook closer to 30 minutes
- Remove from oven and let rest for 5-10 minutes. Cover with foil if letting rest longer
