Italian Style Fried Cheese Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 pound of Mozzarella cheese cut in rectangles
- 2 eggs well beaten
- 1/4 cup all purpose flour
- 2/3 cup seasoned bread crumbs
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 clove garlic crushed
- 28 ounce can crushed Italian tomatoes
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon crushed oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed dried basil
Instructions
- In three separate bowls put eggs, flour and seasoned dry bread crumbs.
- Dip cheese in egg then flour then egg then crumbs.
- Place on wax paper then refrigerate 1 hour.
- Fry cheese in olive oil turning once then drain and serve with sauce.
- To make sauce heat 1 tablespoon olive oil then brown garlic and remove.
- Add crushed tomatoes and seasonings then simmer 45 minutes uncovered.
