General Cheese Sauce

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons All-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Whole milk
  • 1 1/2 cups Cheese (cheddar, monterey jack) shredded
  • 1/4 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • Salt & black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In saucepan, melt butter over low heat. Add flour to butter and whisk continuously for 1-2 minutes to create a roux. Gradually add milk while whisking constantly to eliminate lumps. Cook the mixture, stirring continuously until it starts to thicken, 3-5 minutes. Reduce heat to low and add cheese, a little at a time, stirring until the cheese melts and the sauce is smooth and creamy. Add garlic powder. Season with salt and pepper. If sauce become too thick, add a bit more milk and whisk until smooth.
  2. Use sauce for macaroni & cheese, over vegetables or as a dipping sauce.
